John Webster, London, an early 18th century walnut and marquetry longcase clock, the hood with triple caddy top and ball finials, the trunk with arabesque marquetry inlaid door with circular glazed panel, on a box base, the 30cm square brass dial with silvered chapter ring signed John Webster, London, with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, The eight day twin train movement with five turned pillars, striking to a bell, having pull repeat, 244cm high.
The clock is currently not working as the pendulum cannot be linked to the anchor escapement. The whole clock and case have been heavily restored, The case has been cleaned and repolished as has the dial chapter ring and movement. there is evidence that the cheeks have been reduced and that part of the backboard has been replace behind the hood area. the current owner bought this clock from a London dealer some 30 years ago or so. Hands have either been reblued or replaced.
