Piers is a Devon boy, born in Totnes and educated at Rolle College in Exmouth (Plymouth University) and St. Luke's College Exeter University. 25 years ago he started auctioneering and valuing for Potbury's in Sidmouth before taking over the auction room in Exmouth almost 13 years ago.
Since then the auction has flourished as a family business.
"Over the years we have had the fortune of selling some unique and fascinating items from the earliest watercolours of Bermuda to a World Record Heuer "Skipperera" wristwatch and from a Rorke's Drift medal to a WWII Harley Davidson. I remember once selling Sue Lawley's Spitting Image puppet head and we sold a Louis Vuitton suitcase which belonged to the writer P.C. Wrenn, author of Beau Geste. After a phone call from the Helmand province in Afghanistan, during the war, and the subsequent sale of an 18ct gold pocket watch to a captain serving out there (bought as a present for his son's 21st birthday) little surprises me anymore!"
